They say ” Conscience is an Open Wound: Only Truth Can Heal it” .
The Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom has reportedly commended President Muhammadu Buhari for his non interference in the Benue governorship elections irrespective of severe pressure from his party members.
This is said to be part of his remarks at the J. S Tarka Foundation today where he received his certificate of return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Governor Samuel Ortom and the People’s Democratic Party in Benue State had not only originated, but depended heavily on the narrative that President Muhammadu Buhari and the Fulani nationality had Vested interest in the Benue governorship and would stop at nothing to ensure victory for the governorship candidate of the APC, Emmanuel Jime who they said had agreed to cede Benue land to the Fulanis.
This propaganda went to an incredibly low level of alleging President Buhari’s encouragement of insurgents activities in Benue State.
The All Progressives Congress in Benue State and its leaders had sued for caution in employing cheap and divisive propaganda against the office and person of President Buhari in order to gain political advantage. The presidency had similarly in a statement warned Governor Samuel Ortom to refrain from using Church platforms as avenues of spreading hate and falsehood against the president.
The governor’s dramatic turn to commendation of President Buhari’s dispassionate handling of the electoral process in Benue State is a vindication of the voice of reason that almost got submerged by a well coordinated propaganda machinery in Benue State.
It is unfortunate that it has taken electoral victory to extract Gov Samuel Ortom’s acknowledgement of the real Muhammadu Buhari with the attendant damage already caused.
But we all knew that the Buhari we know is a man who does not only believe in justice for all but that issues should be allowed to get through a natural cause of events without being subjected to cheap and primordial considerations.
Buhari is a leader who would view all issues from the angle of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and not as a tribal war lord as many wanted us to believe. This is why many of us refused the temptation of judging the president as a Fulani man, but as our president in the same manner we have done to others in his position even in the face of similar Security challenges.
Governor Samuel Ortom’s pulgation of emotions shows that truth is sacrosanct and no amount of falsehood can cover it.
We look forward to many more moments of truth in Benue State and expect that they should not only shadow the euphoria of the electoral victory but also electrify all other contending issues in the state.
I also hope that this new Buhari as confessed by the governor will be preached in Churches and other high profile places in Benue State.
