No fewer than three people have been reported killed as the Jukum militia at Kente, Wukari Local Government last night and this morning attack Atsenga village in Ukum Local Government Benue State burning down houses with property worth millions of naira.
It was gathered that the trouble started when a Tiv man had a dissagreement with his Jukum friend which resulted to a fight between the two of them, when he couldn’t challenge his friend physically the Jukum guy went back and called his jukum militias which they came well armed as it became a full grown crises,Semban Kerepe told grassroots Africa.
According to reports, Gbeji, Kente, Igbongum and Vaase setlements are situated along the Border of Benue, Taraba states with Jukum and Tiv living together as good neighbours for over 10 decades.
The Jukun militial attack the armless Tiv community destroyed over three thousands (3000) houses, including a well furnished hospital belonging to one Dr Terungwa .
So far, the report says over 20000 tuber’s of yams and yam seedlings were burnt to ashes including an old woman ,Mama Yanenge Shiva burnt to Ashe’s in one of the houses.
The Executive Chairman Ukum local government Hon Ibellogo Tor-Tyokaa who visited the affected area to access the level of distructions says he called his Wukari counter part Hon Grace Adi and they both met at the scene of the incidence where the Jukun youth were still firing sporadically. He said:
“right in our presents the youths were still shooting, at this juncture we have to run for our dear lives, it took the military men that i brought from Gbeji who guideded me to run out of the crises town, i therefore call on the two commisioners of police representing Benue and Taraba to draft there men to restore peace and other without delay” Ibellogo Appealed.
The militias are reportedly shooting and heading to Igbongum, another Tiv Communitie on the same border at the time of filling this report.
